Classification and Selection Guide for Laser Sources
Classification of Laser Sources
Laser sources can be classified into solid-state lasers, gas lasers, liquid dye lasers, and semiconductor lasers according to their working materials. Each type has unique characteristics and applicable scenarios:
Solid-state lasers: such as Nd:YAG (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet) lasers, which have the characteristics of high power output, stability, and long life.
Gas lasers: such as CO2 and He-Ne (helium-neon) lasers, suitable for high-precision cutting and marking applications.
Liquid dye lasers: capable of producing lasers with a wide range of wavelengths, suitable for scientific research.
Semiconductor lasers: widely used in various consumer electronic products with the advantages of small size, high efficiency, and low cost.
Classification by output mode
According to the output mode of laser sources, they can also be divided into continuous wave (CW) lasers and pulsed lasers; continuous wave lasers provide stable and uninterrupted laser output and are suitable for applications that require continuous energy supply. Pulse lasers emit lasers in the form of periodic short pulses, which can provide extremely high peak power in an instant and are often used for precision machining and material processing.
Classification by wavelength
Laser sources can also be classified according to the wavelength of light they emit, including visible light, infrared light, ultraviolet light, etc. Different wavelengths correspond to different application scenarios, such as ultraviolet lasers are suitable for delicate micromachining tasks.
How to choose the right laser sources
Application requirements: clarify the specific requirements of your application for lasers, such as power, wavelength, pulse width, etc.
Cost-effectiveness: evaluate the purchase cost, operating cost and maintenance cost of laser sources to ensure a reasonable return on investment.
Reliability and stability: Check the long-term operating reliability and stability of laser sources, which is particularly important for industrial production.
Technical support and service: Good after-sales service and technical support can help solve problems encountered during use.
