Repair and replace the protection lens of the laser cutting head to ensure the service life of the laser cutting head

Time : 2024-08-27

At Raysoar, we extend a warm reminder to our clients on the importance of laser cutting head maintenance. The use of inferior protective lenses not only jeopardizes the lifespan of cutting heads but also leads to various operational challenges, impacting factory processing, quality, and increasing overall production costs. In this blog post, we, at Raysoar, strongly advise our clients to procure protective lenses through reputable channels to avoid unnecessary risks and losses.

Laser Cutting Heads: Crucial Components in Harsh Environments: Functioning as vital components on laser cutting machines, laser cutting heads endure extreme conditions within the manufacturing environment. These components, particularly the collimation and focusing lens assemblies, are susceptible to contamination and damage during cutting operations. Therefore, it is imperative to install protective lens plates at both ends of the cutting head to prevent pollution and harm from dust and splatter.

The Significance of Protective Lens Plates: Protective lens plates play a dual role in shielding internal optics and expensive components while directly influencing the processing performance and quality of laser cutting machines. Contaminated protective lens plates can compromise cutting efficiency and results, impacting internal components and, in severe cases, leading to the destruction of related parts. Choosing high-quality protective lenses is paramount, ensuring optimal functionality and preventing significant damages.

Maintenance and Replacement of Optical Components in Laser Cutting Heads: Our expert engineers recommend a meticulous selection process for protective lens plates, emphasizing superior materials with high light transmittance and low thermal expansion coefficients. Regular inspection and prompt cleaning or replacement of contaminated protective lens plates during laser cutting operations are essential for sustaining optimal performance.

Negative Impacts of Poor-Quality Protective Lens Plates:

  1. Thermal Lensing Effect causing Focus Drift:

    • Lower-quality protective lens plates increase laser absorption, resulting in thermal deformation over prolonged exposure. This effect causes focus drift in laser cutting heads, especially when working with high-power lasers on materials with high reflectivity, leading to inconsistent cutting results and potential operational issues.
  2. Burn Spots/Through Burns on Protective Lenses:

    • Inferior lower protective lens plates with inadequate dust and splatter resistance may develop burn spots. In the case of high-power laser heads, low-quality protective lens plates can lead to direct lens burn-through.
  3. Focal Lens Burn Spots:

    • After the protective lens plate is burnt through, continued laser cutting operations generate particle-laden smoke that contaminates components, seals, and the surface under the focusing lens, causing burn spots. This requires deep cleaning and replacement of the entire assembly.
  4. Damage to Laser Output Heads:

    • For high-power laser devices, a burnt-through protective lens plate can result in rapid destruction of internal components like collimation and focusing lens modules within the cutting head. In severe cases, damage to internal optical components can lead to abnormal light paths, causing feedback that overheats the laser fiber output head’s window, potentially burning out QBH or LOE crystals and necessitating the replacement of the entire laser output head.

In conclusion, Raysoar advises clients to prioritize purchasing protective lens plates through legitimate channels and reputable manufacturers to avoid compromising on quality. It is essential not to underestimate the impact of seemingly minor decisions, as the consequences can be significant. At Raysoar, we strive to empower our clients with valuable insights to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of their laser cutting heads.
